Visitor Arrivals for November 2017

 

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,833,061 in November 2017, up by 9.4% year-on-year but down slightly by 1.9% month-to-month. Overnight visitors (1,511,769) and same-day visitors (1,321,292) went up by 10.0% and 8.8% respectively year-on year. The average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors and same-day visitors remaining unchanged at 2.1 days and 0.2 day respectively.

 

Visitors from Mainland China increased by 16.1% year-on-year to 1,981,047 in November, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rising by 12.0% to 886,093. Mainland visitors came mainly from Guangdong Province (755,927), Hunan Province (90,365) and Fujian Province (74,328). Visitors from the Republic of Korea (72,475) and Taiwan (84,082) grew by 16.9% and 0.7% respectively, while those from Hong Kong (470,757) dropped by 6.8%. Meanwhile, visitors from the United States (19,809), Canada (7,783) and the United Kingdom (5,705) registered decreases, whereas those from Australia (8,211) increased.

 

Analysed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by land (1,564,961) rose by 9.6% year-on-year, with those arriving through the Border Gate (1,371,015) increasing by 10.3%. Visitor arrivals by sea (1,023,035) went up by 6.4% year-on-year; those disembarking at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal (608,153) and Taipa Ferry Terminal (414,882) grew by 5.5% and 7.7% respectively year-on-year. Visitor arrivals by air (245,065) recorded a year-on-year growth of 22.6%, with those arriving at the airport (243,937) rising by 22.5%.

 

In the first eleven months of 2017, visitor arrivals totalled 29,556,816, up by 5.1% year-on-year; overnight visitors (15,619,533) rose by 10.4% while same-day visitors (13,937,283) edged down by 0.3%. The average length of stay of visitors (1.2 days) held stable year-on-year, with that of overnight visitors (2.1 days) falling by 0.1 day and that of same-day visitors (0.2 day) remaining unchanged. Analysed by country/place, visitors from Mainland China (20,127,443) and the Republic of Korea (797,112) increased by 7.8% and 34.7% respectively year-on-year, while those from Hong Kong (5,592,659) and Taiwan (971,516) decreased by 3.8% and 0.8% respectively. Meanwhile, visitors from the United States (168,633), Australia (79,528), Canada (67,103) and the United Kingdom (52,622) recorded decreases.
